Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Freelance Community Manager to join our team and oversee The Unmuted Collective, our vibrant online community platform. This part-time remote position offers the opportunity to shape and nurture a dynamic community focused on empowering Black and Brown creators, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
About The Organization
UNMUTEDCO LLC is a technology and media company dedicated to serving Black and brown communities, urban centers, and disenfranchised markets through innovative digital solutions, content creation, and educational resources. Our brands include NoirPlus (streaming service), NoirTube (content platform), and various business services designed to empower underrepresented entrepreneurs.
Position Details
• Employment Type: Freelance/Independent Contractor
• Duration: 6-month contract with potential for renewal
• Time Commitment: Part-time (15-25 hours per week)
• Location: Remote (must have reliable high-speed internet)
• Equipment: Must provide own computer and workspace
Key Responsibilities
Community Moderation & Management
• Monitor and moderate group discussions, posts, and member interactions
• Review and approve/decline membership requests based on community guidelines
• Enforce community standards and handle policy violations professionally
• Respond to member inquiries and escalate complex issues appropriately
Content & Engagement
• Facilitate meaningful discussions and encourage active participation
• Create and schedule community announcements and updates
• Curate relevant content that aligns with our brand values and community interests
• Host virtual community events and engagement activities
Administrative Duties
• Maintain accurate records of community metrics and member engagement
• Prepare weekly and monthly community reports
• Collaborate with the broader UNMUTEDCO team on community initiatives
• Support onboarding processes for new community members
Brand Alignment
• Ensure all community interactions reflect UNMUTEDCO’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Promote company initiatives, events, and services within the community appropriately
• Maintain professional representation of the UNMUTEDCO brand
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
• 2+ years of experience in community management or social media management
• Strong written communication skills with excellent grammar and professional tone
• Cultural competency and genuine commitment to supporting diverse communities
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and dedicated workspace
• Own computer/laptop capable of running multiple applications simultaneously
• Availability during peak community hours (typically evenings and weekends)
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with community management platforms and tools
• Preferred: Experience with Discord or similar community platforms
• Basic understanding of social media analytics and reporting
• Familiarity with content management systems
Soft Skills
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently while maintaining team communication
• Cultural sensitivity and inclusive mindset
• Proactive problem-solving approach
Preferred Qualifications
• Discord community management experience (highly preferred)
• Experience working with diverse or underrepresented communities
• Background in media, entertainment, or technology sectors
• Familiarity with content creation and creator economy
• Experience with event planning and community programming
